Due to lack of customer support for this project we have closed our doors to the Mkay Bike. Our new incarnation is the Dry Pod with a planned release date of spring 2011.
well after some serious riding around town up and down san francisco hills it appears that the mkay bike is getting an actuall 100-125 mpg based on a riders weight of 160 lbs.
some of the larger hills slow down the bike and i occasionally need to do a light pedal to go up a hill. frankly i like the occasional pedaling it gives me a workout but now i can go much further distances without breaking much of a sweat, which is nice in social situations.
paid dividends the other weekend when i walked it home instead of driving home drunk. i put my ipod on and just trekked 2 miles pushing my bike. it's fairly light and easy to push. with a good podcast (email me for tips) and a solid beer buzz the walk is fairly enjoyable. so people! party on! drive safe, save lives, become a fit american. if you drink or party away from your home make sure you are with an mkay bike :)
the bike feels a little dangerous at top speeds. pretty fast to be going on a bike. front shock and disc brakes are a definite recommended upgrade. turn signals and horn should be added.

Riding a Chalk Bike with a Contrail is a cool way to develop bicycle communities. To make your bike a Chalk Bike, simply attach the Contrail Biking Community Tool to the wheels of your bike. The Contrail then applies a thin layer of colored chalk to a bike's tire, and as you ride, it leaves a faint chalk line behind your bike. This concept was created by Studio Gelardi which states, "The goal is to encourage a new cycle of biking participation by allowing the biking community to leave a unique mark on the road and to reclaim this crucial shared space." This will work towards reminding car drivers of the ever mounting presence bikers have on the road. Very cool, and we hope to see this playful artwork on the street soon!
my mkay bike can go 30mph, get's 150*** miles per gallon and if i got a bit drunk at a haight street festival i can walk it home at 3mph and no cops can mess with me. ever try to walk your car home? akido with the government ;) *
if you drink 2 beers at dinner and drive you are committing a dui. it is very hard to defend a dui because the police got you doing a possibly dangerous activity. i think the penalties and police tactics should be debated but not on this post. after getting a dui you will spend at least 1 night in jail, make several court appearances, pay many thousands of dollars and in my case since i was in a national park, have a federal officer watching my back for 3 years.
so i will use this police crackdown and their money maker** to my advantage by showing the convenience of an mkay bike for people who party and live in a city. i will fight for my right to party and do what i want as long as it is ethical to me and those whose opinions are educated and enlightened.
* akido is a martial art that uses the strength of the opponent for ones own benefit.
** there are over 200,000 dui arrests every year in california don't be one of them, avg cost of dui is in the $4-6,000 range eeek not something you want to pay for, wouldn't you rather have that money for _______?
*** in san francisco with constant up and down hills with grades up to 20%! with a driver weighing 160 lbs the actual miles per gallon were more like 100-120 mpg

According to Marshall, every customer has been pleased with his work and the benefits of using a motorized bicycle.
"I have never had a customer that I sold a bike to that didn't call me back and tell me 'I love my bike! They are just too neat," Marshall said. "And where can you buy something that is so much fun under 1,000 bucks? I save you money."
